Houston tank farm reports rain complications

OREANDA-NEWS. Magellan's East Houston tank farm reported emissions of aromatics and other petrochemicals yesterday after heavy rains forced down the floating roof of a storage tank, causing product to collect on top of the tank.

The region received in excess of 10 inches of rain the prior day, and the weight of the water pushed the roof down, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Operators vacuumed the materials and water off of the roof and emptied the tank into a pipeline. The event resulted in emissions of benzene, octanes, styrene, toluene, xylenes, and other materials.
