OREANDA-NEWS. The SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open culminated at the weekend with champion Paul Wesselingh presented with the trophy by SSE Enterprise’s Finance Director Jonathan Marsh.

Former Masters champion Ian Woosnam suffered another near-miss on home soil, as Englishman Wesselingh took a two-shot victory at the SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open.

Despite a deluge on Friday and indifferent weather for much of the weekend, more than 6,000 golf fans took the opportunity to see some legends of the game in action and the event has been described as a great success by those in attendance.

The 1991 Green Jacket winner Woosnam – who had praised SSE Enterprise in advance of the event – held a share of the lead going in to the final round at The Celtic Manor Resort, but lost ground on the back nine and had to settle for joint-second as Englishman Wesselingh secured an eighth Senior Tour title.

The Roman Road course hosted the 13th edition of the Wales Senior Open, sponsored for the first time by SSE Enterprise, which extends the relationship between SSE and the European Senior Tour and European Tour group.

SSE has previously sponsored the Scottish Senior Open for three consecutive years, from 2012-2014, as well as the Scottish Hydro Challenge on the European Challenge Tour since 2009.
