OREANDA-NEWS. June 04, 2015. HP today announced a five-year partnership with 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment to create the next-generation digital experience in support of the three sequels of the box office giant, Avatar. As part of the agreement, which extends through the release of the final film in the epic four-part saga, HP and its partners will create a bridge between the digital and physical worlds and bring the Avatar experience to its fans in new and innovative ways.

“Together, Lightstorm Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and HP will build and deliver a captivating digital experience to the millions of Avatar fans around the world,” said Henry Gomez, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, HP. “This is an incredibly exciting project that will elevate the delivery of global digital entertainment to a whole new level.  It’s a privilege to be a part of Avatar’s creative mission.”
HP will provide expertise and ingenuity in four key areas, including:

  • Hybrid Cloud: Working collaboratively with 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm, HP Helion will provide an optimal blend of private, managed and public cloud services for the Avatar digital experience, using the right cloud deployment for the right job at the right cost.
  • Security: With expertise in security and risk management, HP offers protection for the digital enterprise and its users, while also providing the mechanism for secure e-commerce.
  • Data Capture and Analysis: HP will foster unique and customized experiences for the initiative’s expected millions of users, which are made possible by the data it collects.
  • Collaborative Environment: The project demands an experience that acts as if it were a single workplace in a defined location. HP will deliver a personal, contextualized and secure environment to cater to the needs and interests of the millions of Avatar fans expected to participate.

“With Avatar, we created a world that people want to immerse themselves in. A powerful – and crucial – way for us to provide fans the ability to continue to do that is through an immersive digital experience,” said Jon Landau, Avatar producer and COO, Lightstorm Entertainment. “Through our partnership with HP, we will create an entirely new paradigm for how you expand and grow a story world.  This digital experience will connect all aspects of the AVATAR franchise to make it easy for our fans around the globe to really engage with our world and its themes and, if they want, become part of the story.”

“From a technology point of view, the Avatar digital experience will transform the way we bridge between the physical and digital world”, said John Herbert, EVP and Chief Information Officer, 20th Century Fox. ”We know that HP is the best equipped technology partner with their flexible infrastructure and hybrid cloud foundation, enterprise-grade security, and big data capabilities that deliver insights to create the enhanced, more personalized fan experiences needed to bring this new digital paradigm to life”.

Released in 2009, Avatar reached a global box office of \\$2.8 billion dollars, with more than 190 million tickets sold, and subsequent DVD and video-on-demand sales of more than 50 million worldwide. Avatar’s global franchise continues to grow with three sequels in development; releases are planned for December of 2017, 2018 and 2019.
