OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2015. GE Appliances is announcing a new relationship with IFTTT, a service that allows users to connect Internet services and their devices using a simple statement formation — if this, then that (IFTTT).  “If the oven is preheated, then send me an email.” “If the oven is done cooking, then send me a direct message on Twitter.” These IFTTT examples, called “recipes,” offer a glimpse of the many new ways appliance owners can use the full potential of a connected appliance like GE Caf?™ and Profile™ ovens.

"Owners can create recipes that suit their lifestyle and integrate GE’s connected appliances into the rest of their Internet-connected lives. We’re excited to see the unique recipes that IFTTT users create," says Logan Garrett, part of the Wi-Fi connected appliances team at GE Appliances. "We think this is the beginning of a new way for consumers to interact with their home appliances."

GE Appliances and IFTTT, pronounced “gift” without the “g,” developed the GE Appliances Cooking channel, where owners of GEA ovens who are part of the IFTTT community can connect to more than 100 existing IFTT channel partners, including Facebook, Twitter, Evernote and Dropbox. From sending tweets when dinner is ready, to turning off an oven based on the user’s GPS data, the GE Appliances Cooking channel helps consumers communicate with their appliances no matter where they are.

Six recipes ready to use
GE Appliances has already taken the lead and created a few recipes IFTTT users can copy.

  1. Flash your living room lights when your oven is done cooking
  2. Send yourself a text message when your oven is preheated
  3. Turn the oven off when you leave home
  4. Get an alert on your mobile device when the oven timer is complete
  5. Make sure your oven is off after 11 p.m.
  6. Turn off your oven if smoke is detected

Coinciding with GE Appliance's plan to release a full suite of Internet connected appliances, the GE Appliances Cooking channel will be followed by a complete line of IFTTT channels to complement the upcoming GE WiFi Connect product line.
