OREANDA-NEWS. Shvabe Holding was granted a Russian patent for a utility model of a water treatment unit.

The water treatment unit developed by the specialists of "RD&P Center "Orion" JSC, a Shvabe Holding enterprise, was designed for industrial and household use to treat water with large hardness salt content and also to post-treat water from different sources to make water potable (salt content, hardness, bactericidal treatment, etc.) using electrodialysis. It comprises a tank with a cover, concentration chambers with ion-selective membranes, which are connected to electrode power supply.

"Attempts were taken in Russia to develop a device of this kind, but it either had an unreliable fragile design or limited scope of application, with the use of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution during treatment making household application almost impossible. For proper operation, our device needs electricity only," says Nikolay Rakovich, Deputy Director for R&D and Innovative Development, Shvabe JSC.

The electrodialysis water treatment unit designed by Shvabe is convenient to use. It can operate in an automatic or manual mode. The cost of water treatment with the device is 2 to 4 times lower than with a similar treatment unit using various replaceable filters, while treatment efficiency is 5 to 100 times higher (due to treatment level selection with visual control). Currently, the experts of "RD&P Center "Orion" JSC are testing prototypes of the innovative water treatment unit. The enterprise expects to develop a pre-production modification of the device by the end of 2015.
