Today, Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Generation Co., Ltd., which is owned by JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., submitted the "Planning Stage Environmental Impact Statement for the Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant Units No. 3 and No. 4 Enlargement Plan " concerning the plan to expand the Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, the Mayor of Kawasaki City, the Mayor of Yokohama City, the Governor of Tokyo, the Head of Ota Ward, and the Head of Shinagawa Ward based on the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act. With this, the three companies have begun full-scale examinations of the Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant expansion.

The Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant uses the environmentally friendly clean energy natural gas. It is a natural gas thermal power plant which supplies electric power using gas turbine combined cycle generation, which realizes superior energy efficiency. Unit No. 1 began operating from April 2008 and Unit No. 2 from October 2008. The plant presently has a power output of approximately 847,000 kW.

As a comprehensive energy company, JX Energy is developing new electric power customers, advancing the development of new power sources, and otherwise working to expand its electric power business.

In "Challenge 2020 Vision," Tokyo Gas calls for the "increase of competitive generation capacity." The plant enlargement is part of those measures.

JX Energy and Tokyo Gas will continue using the Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant and contribute to the realization of environmentally friendly, stable and efficient electric power supply.
