OREANDA-NEWS. Mostotrest specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod territorial company Mostootryad-1 continue the construction of the Bor alternate bridge across the Volga. Construction work is scheduled to be completed by the middle of 2017, but construction workers are keeping ahead of schedule. The new bridge crossing with a total length of approximately 9 km is to be built downstream from parallel to the existing Volga (Bor) combined traffic bridge. The customer for the project is the Nizhny Novgorod Regional State Highways Agency.

The project entails the construction of a set of bridge and road facilities. The core structure of the construction project will be a new two-way 1.5 km bridge across the Volga River.

Work on the project began in November 2013. As of the time of writing, all three bridge piers and 26 out of 27 supports on the left- and right-bank overhead crossings have been completed. The specialists are currently completing the foundation for the construction of the last left-bank support. As of June 15, 96% of the total volume of concrete mix has been laid down in the deep foundations and support bodies. 18 out of 27 superstructures of overhead crossings have been mounted. This month, the assembly of the first channel arch will be completed.

Fourteen of the fifteen planned supports at the Nekludovo flyover have been erected and filling work continues on the new junction. The construction of an above-ground cross-over will begin in the near future. On the bridge over Vezloma River and one of the two Vezloma bridges, all supports have been erected, and concrete beams have been mounted to superstructures. On the second Vezloma bridge, supports are 70% completed, and 30% of concrete means have been mounted to superstructures.

After construction is completed, the Bor alternate bridge will accommodate traffic flow to Kirov. One-way traffic flow in the opposite direction on the Volga (Bor) Bridge (constructed in 1965) will help address transportation bottlenecks not only in Nizhny Novgorod, but also those of the entire region, especially its northern districts. The new bridge crossing will become part of Route R159 “Nizhny Novgorod-Shahunya-Kirov” and will significantly increase the throughput capacity of the road section between Nizhny Novgorod and Bor Urban District.
