OREANDA-NEWS  A new Walmart is opening Wednesday, July 1, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 a.m. The new store is conveniently located at 300 Bypass 25 NE and is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The store will provide Greenwood residents with low prices on a broad assortment of groceries and merchandise, along with a full service pharmacy and auto care center. Walmart is making shopping more convenient than ever as local residents can shop for more than a million additional items online on Walmart.com and pick them up at the new Greenwood Walmart store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Carl Spady began his Walmart career in 2006 as an assistant manager.

“We are excited to bring our customers this new, clean store with the affordability and variety they are looking for,” said store manager Carl Spady. “Most importantly we are eager to exceed customers’ expectation with our focus on outstanding service.”

“I was thrilled when Walmart decided to locate within the city boundaries of Greenwood, not only for the additional tax revenue, but also the fact that 300 residents will have employment opportunities,” said Greenwood Mayor Welborn Adams. “Walmart has long been a great community supporter, and we welcome them to Greenwood.  The community is also pleased to have the Walmart shopping experience with a new auto center.”

Fresh, Affordable Produce, Meat and Groceries
Greenwood customers will find meal and entertaining essentials, fresh produce and a full line of groceries from leading brand names, including organic selections. By working with growers, Walmart is able to provide farm-grown quality produce at added convenience and low prices. There is also a wide variety of meat and bakery selections, including local favorites such as Duke’s mayonnaise.

Convenient Local Pharmacy and General Merchandise
In addition to groceries, the store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including electronics, furniture, home decor, an auto care center, sporting goods, home improvement and more.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members are ready to assist customers with product and prescription questions. Greenwood residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups, including American Red Cross, Beyond Abuse, Bowers-Rodgers Children’s Home, Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, Faith Home, Greater Greenwood United Ministry, Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity, McCormick Head Start, Meg’s House, Salvation Army of Greenwood, VFW Post 8131 and You Are Not Alone.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in South Carolina donated approximately 15.9 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 13.3 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $29.2 million in fiscal year 2014 in South Carolina alone.
