OREANDA-NEWS. Lumenco™ today announced that it signed its first US license and distribution agreement for its revolutionary and proprietary Dycyfer™ digital print product with Smyth Companies, LLC.

"This is the second agreement for our Dycyfer digital print product within a week, and we are particular excited to introduce it into the US market with Smyth," said Steven Porter, Lumenco's Chief Executive Officer. "The United States is the largest print market in the world, and Smyth is an important player in this market. Together with Smyth, we expect to successfully launch and solidly establish our Dycyfer product in our home market. With two agreements in place, one for the US and one for Argentina and Brazil, we look forward to rapidly expand into other markets in the coming months. Our goal is to make Dycyfer available worldwide."

Dycyfer, developed and sold exclusively by Lumenco, is a first-ever web (roll) lens product made capable of 4-color process 3D and animation, with instant make-ready down to thicknesses of about 125 microns. Dycyfer is a patented technology that uses a unique algorithm and file process to enable various digital presses, including HP Indigo, Kodak, Xeikon, HP and others, to print exciting 3D effects and animation on roll-label stock from 255-microns to 125 microns in 4-color process.

"Dycyfer is a revolutionary digital print technology never before accomplished reliably in any other print technology in a viable production method, including offset web, gravure, and flexography," said Mark Raymond, Founder and Chief Technology Officer. "Thin digital roll labels and packaging products with the capability of 3D and animation in 4-color process have been a dream of innovators in packaging and brand authentication for decades. We have been extremely fortunate to have developed a great relationship over the years with Smyth and look forward to working with them to develop this revolutionary product in the marketplace with their current and future customers. Smyth has technical ability, production depth and customer base to launch Dycyfer strongly into the marketplace."

"At Smyth, we are always looking for exciting new technologies to take to market," said Scott Fisher, President of Smyth. "We are happy to be part of the evolution of label technology with Lumenco, providing the most advanced labelling technologies to our customers." Fisher adds, "As early adopters of digital label technology, we have recently invested in the latest digital print platforms, including both toner and ink jet. We have added full featured finishing equipment, including foiling, embossing and laser die cutting. Providing our customers full color, 3D and animated labels that can wave at you as you walk down the aisle sounds like a far-fetched idea from a Harry Potter movie. The reality is Smyth can now provide this technology reliably and economically with Lumenco, our new technology partner."

Dycyfer Digital Optics will be available initially in two different configurations, depending upon customers' needs. The 125-micron Dycyfer Digital provides great visual effects in 3D and animation, yet is thin enough for labels and wrapping. Unlike traditional lenticular optics, the patented lens array and process allows 3D in either direction across the web with the same material (or even on the same label). This eliminates the need to turn the label to provide 3D to the viewer in automatic roll label applicators. A thicker, 255-micron product will also be available in rolls capable of extreme 3D and animation, holding over 17 image frames.

In the broad field of light management, Lumenco develops a myriad of innovative solutions -- from anti-counterfeiting and copy-proofing solutions in ID documentation and currency that enhance security to solar power arrays that improve efficiency and the ability to capture light. The potential applications for Lumenco's patented lens design processes are limitless and the company's goal is simple: to develop lenses that manipulate light and color in order to achieve the astounding.
