OREANDA-NEWS. Japanese carmaker Nissan will begin the mass production of the crossover Qashqai at a plant in St. Petersburg in October of 2015. The company currently produces four models of Nissan cars, it is preparing to launch the fifth - Qashqai, says the agency "Tass."

Previously, the General Manager of the plant "Nissan Manufacturing Rus", Dmitry Mikhailov, said that the serial assembly is planned to start in December. The test assembly at the plant began in 2014. Currently Qashqai is imported into Russia; the assembly is carried out in the British city of Sunderland.

Meanwhile, Nissan does not intend to change the strategy of production in Russia, despite the decline in sales, the press service of the company informed the agency "Tass". Nissan considers Russia as one of the key areas for business, "although because of the economic situation and reduction of the demand in the market, the production of cars there was reduced." At the end of six months of 2015 Russian dealers of Nissan sold 50552 cars – it is less by 39% than the year before. The leader of sales in the model line of Nissan in January-June remained sedan Nissan Almera - this model was chosen by 14319 buyers, which is less by 43% than a year ago. Second place went to the SUV Nissan X-Trail, whose sales were 10,506 vehicles (-9.5%). High results of X-Trail are largely due to market entry of a new generation of models at the beginning of March.
