OREANDA-NEWS. High-level speakers from some 30 Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries reiterated the importance of efficient connectivity by different means of transport, at the ASEM symposium on the Eurasia Transport and Logistics Network.

President of the Republic of Korea, Park Geun-hye, notably proposed Korea's Eurasia Initiative with similar plans to China’s One Belt One Road initiative, Russia’s New Eastern Policy and the United States’ New Silk Road Initiative.

IRU President, Janusz Lacny, showcased to over 300 symposium participants how TIR – a safe and secure customs transit system operating for over 60 years – can benefit the Eurasia Transport and Logistics Network.

Participants underlined the critical need to harmonise institutional differences across nations. Indeed, harmonising customs clearance, quarantine procedures, immigration control, and transfer standardisation, would help establish a single transport and logistics network across Eurasia.
