OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2015.Creating disruptive higher education models is all in a day’s learning for the Mexico-based Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of Technology).

The Institute has long been recognized in Mexico for its pioneering high school through doctorate-level curriculum aimed at developing entrepreneurs and leaders with both business and engineering expertise.

Noé Barrón and César García, leaders of the implementation team at the Institute, talked about Tecnologico de Monterrey’s strategy during the recent SuccessConnect 2015 event in Las Vegas, where the Institute won a SuccessFactors Technology HR Excellence President´s Award. Garcia explained how his organization has partnered with SAP/SuccessFactors to create a centralized human capital management (HCM) platform in sync with its new learning model.

“Our objective is to align our professors, instructors, students, parents and business partners around a new self-service model for self-management and transparency,” said García. “The integrated SAP/SuccessFactors HCM platform is helping us centralize around standardized processes that our 30,000 employees can easily use, delivering greater collaboration, efficiencies and simplification.”

The Institute united five different systems across 60 campuses and two hospitals on one platform. Barrón said this has extended the value of the organization’s current investment in on-premise HCM software from SAP by combining it with the power of cloud-based SuccessFactors software including Performance & Goals, Compensation, Talent Management and Learning Management System. Future plans include SuccessFactors Employee Central and Workforce Analytics.

Moving to a self-service approach has dramatically changed how instructors and other employees meet responsibilities. For example, searchable profiles that include experience and interests are opening up new opportunities for professors intent on career development. Other employees are saving time and becoming more productive via anywhere, anytime access on their mobile devices to important information and activities. These include obtaining information like payroll receipts and proof of employment documents, as well as completing career objectives and submitting applications for internal job vacancies.

“Now all employees have access to all career development processes in the same place. Transparency to searchable job postings, promotion activities, teacher and other employee profiles, and learning modules for teacher certification means that everyone has the information they need to quickly collaborate and gain required competencies. We can also manage certifications, tracking instructor completion rates,” said Garcia.

According to Barrón, managers are fully engaged, empowered with the information they need to be leaders. “With all employee data available in one system, organizational leaders have the insight they need to make decisions that benefit Tecnologico de Monterrey and its people.”
