OREANDA-NEWS. HP announced it has joined with NFV ecosystem partners, F5 Networks and Nuage Networks, and Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company, to develop a Networks Functions Virtualization (NFV) proof of concept (PoC) solution. This multi-vendor solution has been certified by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), providing communications service providers (CSPs) with a documented, repeatable framework that can be referenced in deploying NFV technologies.

NFV offers a new way for CSPs to design, deploy, and manage networking services. By decoupling the network functions from proprietary hardware appliances, CSPs can accelerate the introduction of new, compelling services quickly and cost-effectively.

ETSI PoC #38 will be showcased at the ETSI NFV PoC ZONE at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress, October 12-16, 2015 in D?sseldorf, Germany. ETSI PoC #38 showcases:

  • Full ISO 7-layer stack fulfillment, activation and orchestration of virtual network functions in carrier networks.
  • How NFV and SDN technologies can be complimentary in providing compelling value proposition to the carriers to be able to deploy services faster and also to be able scale capacity elastically on demand.
  • 18 specific use cases highlighting the advantages of deploying F5 virtualized network functions in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Integration of F5 BIG-IP technologies with HP NFV Director and HP Helion CloudSystem for the comprehensive end-to-end lifecycle management of virtualized network functions, including VNF instantiation, provisioning, orchestration and service assurance.
  • Integration of F5 virtualized network functions with Nuage Networks Virtual Services Platform (VSP) to enable service insertion and traffic toward the appropriate services independent of their location. VSP ensures data paths between VNFs have consistent communications and security policy enforcement throughout the infrastructure.

By participating in the PoC (ETSI PoC #38), Telstra sought to increase its knowledge and experience using software defined networking (SDN) in NFV architecture, test methodology for NFV and end-to-end fault correlation. The PoC provided Telstra with key insight into developing the skills and assessing underlying NFV technologies along with understanding the network/product implications of NFV.

HP OpenNFV platform – An end-to-end virtualization framework built around openness
The HP approach to NFV is built around adherence to openness and standards, a key benefit of which is the ability to enable other telco ecosystem vendors to introduce new innovations on top of the HP OpenNFV platform, including network equipment providers (NEPs), independent software vendors (ISVs), and systems integrators (SIs). This allows CSPs to choose different components from the vendors that best meet their needs, accelerating NFV deployments and providing customers a simplified end-to-end experience from ordering, to deployment, operations, lifecycle management and services.
