OREANDA-NEWS. November 05, 2015. IRU took the opportunity of speaking at the Global Logistics Emission Council?s (GLEC) European Union consultation seminar to present and further develop support for its work on CO2 reduction. GLEC shares IRU’s view on the further alignment of carbon accounting in road freight transport and logistics. IRU is actively seeking solutions to better align carbon footprinting methodologies, not only in EU road freight transport, but also for logistics services.

The GLEC initiative is a global bottom-up approach to emission footprinting. It does not try to impose or replace existing methodologies with a new one but aims to create a more transparent framework with greater convergence between existing methodologies.

IRU joined GLEC in November 2014. It is positive follow up to the IRU commitments laid down in its 30-by-30 Resolution. The 30-by30 Resolution is a voluntary commitment by the road transport industry to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
