OREANDA-NEWS. Russia plans to load experimental fuel assemblies with REMIX-fuel in the reactor core of unit 3 of the Balakovo nuclear power plant in June 2016. Andrey Sinyukhin, deputy director general of the V G Khlopin Radium Institute, announced the plan during the AtomEco-2015 conference in Moscow, Nuclear.Ru reported today. REMIX (from Regenerated Mixture) fuel is produced directly from non-separated mix of recycled uranium and plutonium from reprocessing used fuel with a low-enriched uranium (16% U-235) make-up. REMIX could serve as a replacement for existing reactor fuel.
