OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2015. “Outstanding” Ford apprentice Sam Harris has received a prestigious national award from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE).

The Dunton-based rapid product development engineer was runner-up in the 2015 Bryan Hildrew Apprentice of the Year category for going above and beyond his responsibilities to ensure the success of his team and company.

Harris, who specialises in 3D printed engineering solutions, also designed and manages the Ford Higher Apprentice Challenge, which involves working with local schools to design, test and manufacture a small vehicle to carry an egg down a ramp so that it comes to a stop before hitting a wall.

He has also served as a student representative and has participated in schemes such as team-building for senior HR management colleagues; delivered a class on safety at a local college; presented to local business leaders; and taken part in fund-raising activities.

Harris has previously worked in turbocharging and also on the Chinese Transit Joint Venture programme as a Project Management Engineer.
