OREANDA-NEWS. Power management company Eaton announced that its engine boosting, fuel- and emissions-saving technologies are on four of the 10 engines chosen by WardsAuto for its 22nd annual “10 Best Engines” competition. The winners were honored today during a ceremony held at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.

“We are very pleased to see our valued customers receiving this prestigious award,” said Pavan Pattada, president, Vehicle Group, North America. “The continuing success we have in providing automakers with leading powertrain technologies could not happen without the hard work and dedication from Eaton employees in our facilities throughout the world.”

The Eaton technologies that are part of the winning engines and the four Eaton facilities that supply them include:

Valve actuation – Cylinder deactivation system:

Valves – High performance, super alloy and lightweight:

Supercharger – High efficiency and lightweight:

  • Volvo XC90 – 2.0L turbocharged/supercharged DOHC 4-cylinder (Tczew, Poland)

Eaton technologies have contributed to winning engines since the inception of WardsAuto’s 10 Best Engines program, including one returning winner (Ram diesel V-6) that made this year’s list.

This year’s 10 Best Engines are “loaded with innovation, from hybrids to muscle cars,” said Drew Winter, director-content. WardsAuto.

The Camaro/Cadillac CTS engine features “efficiency enhancements, such as Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation,” while the Maxima’s engine “dazzled us,” WardsAuto editors said. The Ram diesel V-6 remains “the gold standard for refinement and fuel efficiency,” while the all-new Volvo XC90’s engine is “arguably the new benchmark for high-output 4-cyl. engines.”

“Eaton helps automakers and end-users improve energy efficiency and performance for a wide variety of applications and we continue to develop next-generation technologies that will power tomorrow’s cars and trucks,” said Gerard DeVito, vice president, Technology, Vehicle Group. “Our global engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities allow us to work closely with leading automakers to meet stringent regulations and changing consumer preferences around the world.”

The WardsAuto 10 Best Engines competition pits the latest engines available in the U.S. market against the returning winners from the previous year. To be eligible, an engine must be available on a production vehicle that is on sale within the first quarter of 2016 and has a base price of less than $61,000.
