OREANDA-NEWS. The Government at its session has approved the draft Law of Ukraine “On Infant Food”. “The aim of the Law is to simplify the conditions for business activities in the sphere of baby foods production,” Oleksii Pavlenko, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, thus commented on the respective bill. 

“The legal and organizational framework for baby foods production should be improved through adjustment and harmonization of the national legislation with the EU norms, establishing the basic requirements for food safety and quality,” the Minister added.

The Draft Law stipulates the amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Infant Food” suggesting:

- to remove the provisions which established the mandatory obtaining of the status of a special raw materials zone for manufacturers of raw materials for baby food, and other provisions regulated by other laws;

- to determine the current requirements for quality and safety of raw materials, used for the production of baby foods, and the requirements for turnover and labelling of baby foods;

- to give a new definition to the terms (“raw material”, “infant food producer”, “the quality of infant food”);

- to introduce the respective amendments to the Laws of Ukraine “On Child Protection”, “On Pre-Primary Education”, “On Pesticides and Agrochemicals” with the aim of their adjustment to the new edition of Law of Ukraine “On Infant Food”.

For reference: on December 18, 2015, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine held a conciliation session with the aim of settling the differences in the Draft Law of Ukraine “On Infant Food”. As of the results of the meeting, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine agreed to the method of accepting its comments and suggestions to the bill.
