OREANDA-NEWS. A third generation Transit owner has won a brand-new Ford Transit Custom model at a Ford Transit 50th Anniversary event, hosted recently by the company’s distributor in Morocco.

The Transit’s 50th anniversary has been celebrated throughout 2015, with special reference to August 9, 1965, when the first Transit model rolled off the production line at the Ford Langley plant in England. More than eight million Transit and Transit Custom models have been built since.

In Morocco, Ford, through its local distributor, is already offering three new Transit models; Transit 2T, Transit Custom and Transit Chassis Cab. The new Transit Connect and Courier will also soon be introduced to the Moroccan market.

SCAMA, Ford’s distributor in Morocco, hosted the 50th Anniversary event at its dealership in Casablanca, joining the Ford Transit Golden Year Celebration. SCAMA ran a campaign last year to identify the owner of the country’s oldest Transit, with the winner being given a new Ford Transit to take home.

Following the campaign, Abdelkrim Fohami, owner of a Ford Transit registered on December 5, 1972, won the brand new Transit Custom from SCAMA.

The event was attended by SCAMA management, representatives from Ford, media and customers. Fohami inherited the 44 year old Transit from his father, who had in turn inherited it from his father, with the vehicle having been with the family for three generations.

Ford’s distributor, Auto Hall, has been selling Ford vehicles in Morocco for more than 100 years. Its founder, Gabriel Veyre, was assigned by the Sultan in the early 1900s to bring the automobile to Morocco. SCAMA, a subsidiary of Auto Hall, was founded in 1993.
