OREANDA-NEWS. IRU calls on Dutch Presidency to act on fair competition.

In a letter to the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, in the context of the Netherlands EU Presidency, IRU called for fair competition and a level playing field explicitly in the EU professional taxi sector and more widely in the commercial road transport sector.

With a view to the European Competitiveness Council meeting to be held on 29 February, the IRU called on the Dutch Presidency to encourage Member States to support the initiatives announced in the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy. The importance of ensuring that businesses engaged in transport and mobility can compete fairly in an innovative, socially acceptable and environmentally-friendly manner was stressed. Additionally, IRU called for recognition of the difference between the real sharing economy and those actors claiming to belong to the sharing economy but simply acting as commercial transport intermediaries. All actors that are providing similar transport services must obey the same rules or act jointly to change them if deemed necessary.
