OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has announced a launch of HD Voice on 3G networks. Introduction of a new codec provides high definition to transmitted sound and adds clarity to the voice of a person one is talking to.

HD Voice adds nuance to transmitted voice and creates experience of real-life communication. In HD voice, the technology is increasing the width of the sound spectrum reproduced, from 50Hz to 7KHz, whereas traditional codecs used on the 3G networks are constraining the reproduction of the sound spectrum to the range between 300Hz on the low end to 3.4KHz on the high end.

Tele2 has already launched high-definition voice technology in 34 Russian regions. The operator’s subscribers in Moscow were to first to appreciate the transmitted sound in HD quality. Over 2016 Tele2 is planning to introduce the codec on all 3G networks.

To use the technology, subscribers do not need to take any additional actions or change the phone’s settings: most large producers support HD Voice on default.

Ritvars Krievs, Chief Technical Officer at Tele2:

“Tele2 has always paid attention to the quality of transmitted voice. In 2013, we launched TFO technology that allows enhancement in core voice parameters of calls on the network. That is why a launch of HD Voice in 3G networks is a logical result of Tele2’s continued work on enhancement of quality. While launching high-speed mobile Internet in Russia, we are aiming to provide not only high speed of data transmission but also reproduction of voice in real-life quality so that our subscribers could hear a person they are speaking to as clearly as in face-to-face communication.”

The HD Voice technology is already available in Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Vologda, Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Kemerovo, Kirov, Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Moscow, Murmansk, Novgorod, Omsk, Orel, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Sakhalin, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tomsk, Tula regions as well as in republics of Adygeya, Karelia, Komi, the Udmurtia Republic, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories.
