OREANDA-NEWS. The SSE Hydro is supporting this year's Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights for an hour from 8.30pm on Saturday 19 March.

Earth Hour is a worldwide awareness raising campaign co-ordinated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Hundreds of millions of people participate in the event each year which offers an opportunity to think about the small things we can do that lead to a big difference. The more lights that are switched off, the bigger the impact for the campaign.

In 2015, WWF’s Earth Hour grew to become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. Over 10,400 of the world’s landmarks in 172 countries and territories helped Earth Hour by turning off their lights for an hour to help highlight the need for climate action.

The iconic Glasgow venue will join over 170 countries, 7,000 cities and towns, as well as world renowned structures such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sydney Opera House and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, in switching off its lights tomorrow night.

The 13,000 capacity SSE Hydro welcomes more than one million visitors every year and has won a number of awards. Since opening in September 2013, it has hosted concerts by Rod Stewart, Prince, Katy Perry and the MTV Europe Music Awards.
