OREANDA-NEWS Korean manufacturer Hyundai has extended the downtime of its plant in St. Petersburg until November 30, 2023. This was reported to TASS in the Employment Center of St. Petersburg in response to the request.

"Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus LLC reported on the idle mode at the enterprise from 01.11.2023 to 30.11.2023. 534 people are idle (about half of the full-time staff of the enterprise)," the Employment Center of St. Petersburg reported.

On September 25, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov on the sidelines of the industrial exhibition "Innoprom. Kazakhstan" stated that the buyer of the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg will be a Russian company. "We have already made all the decisions regarding the acquisition of Hyundai. At least what was stated directly by the company itself. Therefore, a decision will be made in the near future," he added.

Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg stopped the production of cars in March 2022 due to difficulties with the supply of components. 2,206 factory workers out of 2,537 were idle. Prior to the cessation of production, the company produced Hyundai Solaris, Hyundai Creta, Kia Rio and Kia Rio X-Line models. The production capacity of the plant, launched in 2010, was more than 200 thousand cars per year.
