OREANDA-NEWS Rosneft and Tsinghua University, one of the leading universities in China, signed a Memorandum of cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research and development within the framework of the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The memorandum provides for scientific and technical research on the development of technologies in the field of engineering, oil refining, petrochemistry, renewable energy sources. One of the key areas of cooperation will also be joint research in the field of carbon management. In particular, we are talking about technologies in the field of reducing emissions and absorbing greenhouse gases, improving energy efficiency, as well as capturing, using and storing carbon dioxide and methane.

Cooperation between Rosneft and Tsinghua University will contribute to the Company's strategic goals of reducing emissions and minimizing environmental impact.

Rosneft was the first in the Russian oil and gas industry to set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and included it in its Rosneft 2030 strategy. The Strategy also formulates short- and medium-term horizons of the climate agenda: by 2025 - reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions by five percent; by 2030 - reduction of methane emissions to less than 0.2 percent; zero routine combustion of associated petroleum gas; reduction of specific greenhouse gas emissions in the exploration and production segment to less than 20 kilograms of CO2 per barrel of oil equivalent; by 2035 – reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25 percent.
