OREANDA-NEWS Instagram Facebook and Instagram On March 11, Meta lifted restrictions on calls for violence against the Russian military on social networks. At the same time, calls for cruelty against the civilian population of the Russian Federation remain banned.

Meta's decision angered the Russian authorities, and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has already called for an appeal to the UK regarding the actions of the American company. In this regard, the "Secret of the Firm" asked lawyer Vladimir Kolerev to evaluate the possibility of blocking Instagram in Russia.

Facebook blocking in Russia began on March 4. Roskomnadzor called it a response to "discrimination" against Russian media — the American platform had previously restricted access to the accounts of the Zvezda TV channel, RIA Novosti, Sputnik, Russia Today, Lenta and Gazeta.ru. Instagram, however, continued to work.

"Blocking Instagram was likely even before the lifting of the ban on calls for violence. The future fate of Instagram depends on what content users from Russia will see. If the algorithms of the social network isolate Russian users from posts unacceptable to Russia, then the chances of Instagram staying in Russia will increase.

In addition, the social network may restrict advertising targeting Russia, which will avoid the paid promotion of extremist posts as a weapon of information warfare," Vladimir Kolerev, head of the intellectual property practice at DRC law firm, told the "Secret of the Firm".
