OREANDA-NEWS. The number of users of WhatsApp messenger has reached 2 billion people.

“We are excited to share that, as of today, WhatsApp supports more than two billion users around the world,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post. “Private conversations that once were only possible face-to-face can now take place across great distances through instant chats and video calling. There are so many significant and special moments that take place over WhatsApp and we are humbled and honored to reach this milestone.”

WhatsApp messenger was launched in 2009. In 2014 it was acquired by Facebook for 19 billion US dollars. The 1 billion mark was passed in 2017.

The application is the second largest service after the social network Facebook. The level of 2 billion was achieved by the latter in 2017.
