OREANDA-NEWS  More than 200 thousand residents of Dagestan were left without electricity. The power supply was disrupted due to the hurricane, according to the Ministry of Energy.

The rampant elements led to power outages in 258 settlements in Buinak, Kasumkent, Sergokalinsky, Tlaratinsky, Akhtyn, Magaramkent, Dahadaevsky, Karabudakhkent, Gunibsky, Levashinsky, Akushinsky, Gergebilsky and Derbent districts of the republic, as well as in Makhachkala.

About 70 teams have been sent to eliminate the consequences of bad weather. In many areas, however, repairs were delayed: high-altitude work in squally winds is prohibited by safety regulations. By seven o'clock in the evening, according to Dagenergo, power supply was restored to 90 percent of consumers.

The republic was covered by a snowstorm. The wind speed reaches up to 30 meters per second. Several republican highways have been blocked. An avalanche blocked the Tsunta district in the highlands, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

Earlier, more than 800,000 residents of California were left without electricity due to strong winds and rain. The Weather Forecasting Center has warned of the fourth, highest level of flood risk in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Oxnard.
