OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2023, the total supply of Russian thermal coal to Turkey soared by 46 percent compared to 2022 and reached the level of 27.5 million tons.
Against this background, the share of Russian thermal coal in the structure of Turkish imports increased last year from 48 to 70 percent. This figure has become a record in the entire history of observations.

At the same time, Russian coal continues to displace Colombian coal from the Turkish market, whose supplies to the Mediterranean country decreased by 1.7 times last year, to 6.3 million tons. As a result, the share of coal from Colombia in Turkey's imports decreased from 27 to 16 percent.

In 2023, Turkey increased the import of not only coal, but also other energy resources and raw materials from Russia. In particular, in December, Russian offshore oil exports to the Mediterranean country increased to a record level of 444 thousand barrels per day (13 percent of all offshore oil supplies from the Russian Federation).
