OREANDA-NEWS. The first deputy head of the international committee of the Federation Council, Vladimir Dzhabarov, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, reacted to Denmark's threats to turn Nord Stream 2 into a "Pyrrhic victory" for Russia. According to the senator, the statement of the ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Uffe Ellemann-Jensen is exclusively populist, and his proposal is practically impracticable and unprofitable.

The former minister said that in order to reduce the threat of dependence on Russian gas, the construction of a gas pipeline from Norway to Poland should be completed as soon as possible. “The Europeans should be able to turn off the tap when they need to put pressure on Russia,” he said.

Dzhabarov noted that if in his statement the ex-minister meant the use of Norwegian gas as an alternative to Russian gas, then his proposal is simply unprofitable, since its own sources in this country are already depleted.

“The Norwegians are already reducing their production themselves. And Europe, meanwhile, already needs completely different volumes: in conditions when winters are getting colder and summer days are hot, a large amount of gas is needed to heat and cool the premises, - said the senator in an interview with Lenta.ru. - I suppose the ex-minister just wanted to draw attention to his person, to leave at least some trace in history. However, this is a completely hopeless move. "

According to Dzhabarov, it is unprofitable for the European Union to put pressure on Russia in the framework of the work on the gas pipeline and its subsequent launch, because this is an exclusively commercial project.

“Firstly, Nord Stream 2 is a commercial project between Germany and Russia, it does not violate anything. Secondly, it is unclear why anyone in this story should put pressure on our country? After all, in fact, this is a story just about cheap gas, beneficial for all parties, "the senator summed up.
