OREANDA-NEWS On May 10, Rosrybolovstvo will consider at a meeting of the Scientific and Commercial Council of the Northern Fisheries Basin a proposal to completely ban commercial salmon fishing in the White Sea. The deputy head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Vasily Sokolov notified Marina Kovtun, president of the association "Russian Salmon" and the former governor of the Murmansk region (RBC got acquainted with a copy of the response).

Information about the appeal and consideration of the request was confirmed by the press service of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, as well as the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Russian Salmon Gennady Zharkov.

Russian Salmon asked Rosrybolovstvo to consider the possibility of a complete ban on commercial salmon production in the White Sea basin (it includes the Northern Dvina, Onega and a number of other rivers in the Arkhangelsk, Murmansk and Vologda regions, as well as in Karelia) at the end of February this year. The Association positions itself as a non—profit environmental organization that supports projects for the conservation of salmon populations in Russia and rational nature management that does not harm aquatic ecosystems, for example, ecotourism and recreational fishing on the principle of "caught — released".
