OREANDA-NEWS. August 18, 2016. U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has announced that they will allow importation of fresh pomegranate into the continental United States from Peru with safeguards in place to prevent the introduction of spread of plant pests. All fresh pomegranate fruit must be inspected in Peru prior to shipment, and upon arrival in the U.S., the shipments will be irradiated for fruit fly at one of three APHIS certified irradiation facilities:
