OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2016. The Chinese Ministry of Transport reiterated this week that it will strongly support China’s ratification and implementation of the UN TIR Convention.

In a meeting with IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto, Liu Xiaoming, Director General of the Department of Transport Service of the Ministry of Transport, acknowledged the long-term cooperation between the Ministry and IRU. He notably expressed expectations for even closer and wider partnership on transport, including the understanding of trade and transport facilitation instruments, further promotion of international transport across Eurasia, vehicle standardisation and capacity building.  The Ministry will also support the IRU World Congress taking place in Beijing in 2017.

Commenting on China’s imminent TIR accession, Mr de Pretto said, “This will further help advance China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative and its trade development. IRU will continue supporting the Chinese government and business community, including through training to implement the TIR System and other UN trade facilitation instruments.
