OREANDA-NEWS. Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, during her visit to the memorial to the pilots, joked about the frequent escorting of Russian fighters by the British Air Force. It is reported by the Mirror edition.

On Wednesday, for the first time since early 2021, the Queen went out to visit the Runnymede memorial to the Commonwealth of Nations pilots who died in World War II on the 100th anniversary of the Australian Air Force.

During the event, the reigning monarch noted the skills of the air force, and also talked to the air force officer - the queen asked the squadron commander about the nature of his work, in particular, whether he sent Typhoon fighters to "pursue the Russians."

"That's right, madam, this is a lot of fun for us," Squadron Commander Matthew Sander replied to Elizabeth II.

It is recalled that the Queen of England is the head of the British Commonwealth, which includes Australia.

The British Air Force regularly lifts Typhoon fighters to escort Russian aircraft flying in international airspace. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the flights of Russian combat aircraft are strictly in accordance with international rules.
