OREANDA-NEWS  Passenger transportation by long-distance trains from December 29, 2023 to January 8, 2024 increased by 6.8% compared to the same period a year earlier, to 4.9 million people. Russian Railways (RZD) reported this on its Telegram channel.

"From December 29 to January 8, 4.9 million passengers used long-distance trains (+6.8% compared to last year and +8% by the pre-pandemic New Year period 2019/2020)," the message says.

Russian Railways noted that trains in communication with Moscow (an increase of 8%), with St. Petersburg (+12%), and with the southern regions of the country (+16%) were in great demand among passengers on holidays. And for their trips, passengers actively chose double-decker trains (+14% compared to last year) and Sapsan trains (+5.9%).

A significant increase in traffic was also noted on tourist routes, including Russian Railways cruise trains (an increase of 20% compared to last year), trains of the Directorate of High-Speed Rail (+66%), and commuter services (+28%).
