OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) intends to send a letter to the United Nations Organization complaining about the satellite system Starlink owned by American company SpaceX, since this system consisting of thousands of objects will interfere with the work of astronomers.

This was reported by astrophysicist, researcher at the Institute of Astronomy of the RAS Nikolay Samus. According to him, 30–40 % of astronomical photographs will be distorted by traces from the Sun light reflected from the satellites launched by the corporation headed by Elon Musk. Samus informed that the idea is supported by his colleagues from the European Astronomical Society. Its members turned to national structures to provide limiting the deployment of large satellite systems. In particular, the plans of Russian scientists are supported by researchers from Portugal.
