OREANDA-NEWS  Russian Railways has started operating a new powerful electric freight locomotive "Malachite", it follows from the company's message.

We are talking about the freight mainline electric locomotive 3ES8. It is produced by the Ural Locomotives plant of the Sinara – Transport Machines group. The Group noted that the Malachite's load capacity is 42% higher than that of the previous generation locomotives. It can drive trains weighing over 7 thousand tons and up to a kilometer long in mountainous terrain and a difficult climate.

"The freight electric locomotive 3ES8 "Malachite" went on its first flight. He delivered a train of 77 wagons weighing 7,018 tons from Babaevo station (Vologda region) to Luzhskaya station (Leningrad Region)," Russian Railways said in a statement on Friday.

All the main components of the electric locomotive, including the asynchronous traction drive, power equipment and intelligent control systems, are designed and manufactured in Russia. The new car is equipped with auto guidance, diagnostics and traffic safety systems. They automatically transmit information about their technical condition.

Equipped with a 3ES8 load-bearing body. It is created in the form of a single frameless structure. This solution provides maximum protection for the locomotive crew during a collision.

"We expect that Malachite will be able to operate trains weighing 7.1 thousand tons on difficult mountainous sections of the Trans–Siberian Railway and 9 thousand tons in the European part of the country," Russian Railways adds.
