OREANDA-NEWS Total sales in the Russian market of passenger cars, light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and trucks, as well as buses, increased by 53% in January 2024, to 95,642 thousand units.

This was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with reference to the data of JSC "Passport Industrial Consulting" (JSC "PPK"), a joint venture of the agency "Autostat" and the operator of the EPTS JSC "Electronic Passport".

The decrease in the car market by December 2023, according to the calculations of the ministry, amounted to 34%.

In January, Russia sold: passenger cars - 79,976 units (+62% YoY and -32% mom), LCVs - 7,054 (+45% and -44%, respectively), trucks - 7,441 (+10% and -39%), buses - 1,171 (-16% and -47%). Locally produced cars accounted for 43% of total sales in January (41,345).

Sales of new electric vehicles in January were at the level of 1,617, showing an increase of 3.9 times by January 2023. According to the ministry, the share of locally assembled electric cars in the total volume of their sales last month amounted to just over a quarter (27%).

AvtoVAZ was the leader in the passenger car market in January. The Ministry of Industry and Trade does not provide full data on its sales, but notes that Lada Granta remained the best-selling car - 9797 units were sold in January, the share of the model was 12%.

In the LCV segment, the leaders in terms of sales of new cars are GAZ (3247 units, 46% share) and UAZ (1519 and 22%, respectively).

The Chinese Sitrak is the leader in the cargo segment (1,465 vehicles, 20%), ahead of the Russian KAMAZ (1,304, 18% share), followed by other Chinese brands such as Snap (835 units, 11%) and FAW (412.6%).
