OREANDA-NEWS Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg will switch to AvtoVAZ sedans after the company starts producing them in the city in 2024, the speaker of the city parliament Alexander Belsky said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the heads of Russian manufacturing enterprises, said that "all officials of the country should drive domestic cars." The Head of State added that it is not necessary to completely abandon imports, but "basic things should be focused on domestic producers."

"The network is actively discussing Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's proposal to transfer Russian officials to domestic cars… We in the legislative assembly support this trend. Next year, the production of sedans should start at the St. Petersburg plant (Lada St. Petersburg plant - ed.), which our deputies plan to transfer to," he wrote in his telegram channel.

According to Belsky, Russia is increasing the pace of development of the automotive industry, and the quality of domestic cars "meets all modern requirements." As an example, the speaker of the legislative Assembly cited the Lada X-cross 5 car, which was presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June.

Earlier in early August, Maxim Sokolov, president of AvtoVAZ, the largest Russian manufacturer of passenger cars, announced plans to launch four new products in the next two years, including the Lada Aura business class sedan.
