OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has held talks in Rio de Janeiro with President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach.

Mr. Orbán congratulated Mr. Bach on the successful realisation of the Rio Olympics, and for eventually overcoming all the difficulties. The Prime Minister also pointed out that Hungary’s ambition to organise the 2024 Olympic Games remains unchanged.

Mr. Orbán explained that the IOC’s Agenda 2020 programme is “tailor made” for Hungary, as it urges medium-sized cities to follow metropolises in hosting the event.

The Prime Minister also told the organisation’s President that, independent of Budapest’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, in the coming years Hungary will implement all the transport-, tourism- and sports-related investments that would be needed for the Games.

At the meeting Mr. Orbán said that from now on, therefore, the question to be answered will no longer be why Budapest should organise the Olympics, but why it should not.
