OREANDA-NEWS Ukraine wants to get membership in the European Union and NATO within 5-10 years. This information was shared by the Prime Minister of the country Denis Shmygal.

Shmyhal notes that Ukraine's desire is to become a member of the EU within 5 to 10 years. But the desire depends not only on Ukraine, but also on 27 other countries. The country expresses such a desire in relation to NATO. Ukraine is seeking membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.

Denis Shmyhal also notes that for Ukraine to become a member of the EU, it is necessary to achieve progress in the fight against corruption, and European standards must be achieved in justice.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2014 amended two laws, abandoning the non-aligned status of the state. In June 2016, additional amendments were adopted that define NATO membership as the country's foreign policy goal. In February 2019, the Ukrainian parliament adopted amendments to the constitution, securing the country's course towards the EU and NATO. Ukraine has become the sixth state to receive NATO Enhanced Partner status. Earlier this status was received by Australia, Finland, Georgia, Jordan and Sweden.
