OREANDA-NEWS. July 2, 2008. Mr Medvedev noted that the draft programme was drawn up by the Anti-Corruption Council established by the Presidential Decree of May 19.

The programme’s aim is to create a fully fledged systemic foundation for fighting corruption in Russia.

The draft programme contains anti-corruption legislative measures, new types of liability for corruption offences, measures for organising public and parliamentary control, and also additional requirements for judges, members of parliament and some categories of civil servants. Mr Medvedev noted that the programme also contains measures for enhancing state management, raising the professional level of lawyers and improving legal education.   

The President stressed that Russia should enter the new year with a modern and effective system of anti-corruption legislation.

Taking part in the meeting were members of the Federation Council, the Presidential Anti-Corruption Council, the heads of the law enforcement and security agencies, representatives of the Government, Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office, the presidential plenipotentiary envoys to the federal districts, and members of the Public Council.
