OREANDA-NEWS. November 7, 2008. Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree establishing a Council on the Development of Information Society in Russia.

The Council’s objectives as a consultative body under the President are to promote effective cooperation between the government bodies, non-governmental associations, research and other institutions for the development of information society in Russia.

In particular, the Council will prepare proposals to the President on the relevant issues, conduct expert examination of relevant draft laws, consider and approve the plan worked out by the government for the realisation of the Strategy for the Development of Information Society in Russia, analyse the implementation of the strategy and other programmes and projects in the field of information and telecommunication technologies.

Russian President will head the Council, which will consist of members of the Presidential Executive Office, Ministers, Deputy Speakers of both chambers of the Federal Assembly, scientists and some regional leaders.
