OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2008. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko states about the Government’s readiness to provide overall support to the mining and smelting complex. She disclosed this meeting with owners of enterprises and unions of the mining and smelting complex of Ukraine.

The Head of Government proposed the owners of enterprises of the mining and smelting complex till Wednesday along with the officials to draft proposals on making changes to the current legislation aimed at preventing the global financial crisis impact on the mining-smelting complex of Ukraine.

At that Yulia Tymoshenko promised that on Wednesday sitting the Government would consider and approve a relevant bill and submit it for the Parliament’s ratification.

The Premier stressed that today stabilization of the mining and smelting complex situation should be a top priority for all branches of power. The Head of Government called upon the National Bank and Verkhovna Rada to unite efforts and urgently introduce all antirecessionary measures on supporting the field.

The PM said that Ukrainian metallurgy had taken the 8th place in steel output in the world, “this is a worthy place in the world and despite any crisis we have to retain and uphold it”.

The PM reminded that part of the mining and smelting complex in Ukrainian GDP formation totaled 27 percent last year and currency earnings from sale of output total 48 percent for the first quarter of the current year. “If we want a stable hryvnia rate against dollar then we have to support such fields as mining and smelting complex so that to retain the currency earnings to the country,” Yulia Tymoshenko is confident.
