OREANDA-NEWS. December 10, 2009. A series of major terrorist attacks reportedly occurred in various parts of the Iraqi capital on December 8. Over 100 people were killed and hundreds more wounded in several car bomb blasts. A number of ministries and departments, residential buildings, and cultural facilities suffered considerable damage.

We resolutely condemn these inhuman, bloody and unjustifiable crimes against innocent Iraqi citizens; express our sincere condolences to the kin and kith of the dead and sympathy to those injured and their families, and reaffirm strong support of the efforts by Iraq’s government to eliminate terrorism.

This fresh surge of terrorist activity in Baghdad took place in an extremely challenging period as the country prepares for the upcoming parliamentary elections early next year. We believe that terrorists will not stop Iraq's progress towards democratic development, and the strengthening of sovereignty and state institutions, which is supported by Russia, the countries of the region and the international community.
