OREANDA-NEWS. February 18, 2010. The first consignment of Russian aid was flown in to Yemen on February 16, intended for temporarily displaced persons who suffered from the antigovernment rebellion in the country’s north. Russian EMERCOM planes delivered more than 30 tons of various cargo including mobile power plants, tents, blankets and food.

The humanitarian operation is being conducted in accordance with the instruction of the Russian Government as part of our policy of helping Yemen overcome the economic and social problems of the country. This action is Russia’s input into joint efforts by the international community to aid Yemen, particularly within the framework of the Group of Friends of Yemen, and is being carried out in coordination with the Yemeni authorities.

Humanitarian assistance to friendly Yemen will be continued in the next few days.
