OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2010. Belarus and Russia have created a joint database of hijacked automobiles. Traffic police of the two countries will have access to the database starting this autumn, Yuri Litvin, Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Belarusian Interior Ministry, told media in Gomel on 15 June.

According to Yuri Litvin, by now the two sides have smoothed out technical things regarding the compatibility of Belarusian and Russian databases of hijacked automobiles. They have designed a system to enable remote access to the database, with special data channels allocated. It is now necessary to come up with a way to fit patrol cars with special phones that will be able to query the database.

Yuri Litvin took part in the opening of a traffic police professional mastery contest in Gomel on 15 June. The contest gathered 12 teams, including representatives of all the oblasts of Belarus and the city of Minsk, teams from Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania and Moldova. Traffic wardens will compete in manual traffic management, speedy patrol car and motorcycle maneuvering and the knowledge of the Highway Code. There will be competitions in unarmed combat mastery, special, medical and physical training, in shooting out of a moving car.
