OREANDA-NEWS. December 11, 2007. On Monday, December 10, 2007, a new historical maximum value of the MICEX Index reached at the close of trading, 1945.53 points, was recorded by the MICEX Stock Exchange, the MICEX press service reports.  Since the beginning of 2007, the Index has grown by 14.88%. The previous record-high value of the MICEX Index, 1917.29 points, was recorded on November 8, 2007. The maximum value of the Index reached in the course of trading, 1951.08 points, was also recorded on this day.

Growth of the MICEX Index reflects the overall growth of Russian companies' stocks. In the course of the trading session held on December 10, 2007, the biggest growth was shown by common shares in NOVATEK (5.5%), AVTOVAZ (4.3%), Rostelecom (4.0%), VTB Bank (3.2%) and preference shares in Transneft (3.2%).

The MICEX Index is comprised of 30 securities of issuers representing the main sectors of the Russian economy. The share of turnover for securities comprising the MICEX Index in the total turnover for the MICEX SE’s share market is about 96%. The capitalization of the securities comprising the MICEX Index is over 1 trillion dollars or over 83% of the capitalization of the Russian exchange-based stock market. Shares in LUKoil, Gazprom, Sberbank, Norilsk Nickel, Surgutneftegaz, RAO UES, MTS and Rosneft have the largest weight in the MICEX Index.
