OREANDA-NEWS The Russian government has begun working on an increase in the personal income tax (personal income tax) and new benefits. This is reported by the Vedomosti newspaper, citing sources.

It is clarified that the Ministry of Finance (Ministry of Finance) has been dealing with these issues since the end of 2023. The authorities do not intend to reduce the current personal income tax rate. Now it is at the level of 13 percent for citizens whose income is less than 5 million rubles per year. For those whose incomes are above this level, the rate is 15 percent. We are talking about the authorities' intention to raise personal income tax rates, but the newspaper's interlocutors did not disclose the specific values.

Another block of fiscal changes may relate to tax benefits. It is planned that citizens with lower incomes will be able to receive them. Income tax benefits can also be provided by companies. As noted, this can happen if firms make capital investments, the sources concluded.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an address to the Federal Assembly, proposed setting up a differentiated tax system. In particular, he called for the elimination of loopholes for tax evasion or understatement. The president's initiative included raising tax rates for wealthy citizens.
