OREANDA-NEWS. Almost 60% of Japanese residents support the cancellation or postponement of the Olympic Games in Tokyo amid the spread of coronavirus infection. According to a survey conducted by the «Yomiuri Shimbun» newspaper, 59% would like to cancel the games, and 39% were in favor of holding them. Of the latter group, 23% of respondents mentioned holding competitions without spectators at all as a condition. Earlier, it was decided, that foreign spectators will not be allowed to attend the games.

Another poll conducted over the weekend by «TBS News» found, that 65% wanted the games to be canceled or rescheduled again, with 37% voting to cancel the event entirely and 28% calling for another postponement. A similar survey in April, conducted by the «Kyodo» news agency, showed, that 70% would like the Olympics to be canceled or postponed.

Traces of coronavirus infection were found in the tests of more than 642 thousand residents of Japan. Almost 11 thousand people died.
