OREANDA-NEWSNikita Mazepin will perform on the Formula 1 tests as part of Mercedes, according to the Motorsport publication. The Russian racer will pilot the race car of the champion team during one of the two days of races, which will be held on the track in Barcelona from 14 to 15 May.

The second driver, working on the May tests in the Mercedes, will be the main pilot of the team, Valtteri Bottas. It is expected that the Finnish racer will perform on Tuesday, and Mazepin will sit behind the wheel of the car on Wednesday. Earlier in his career, Mazepin had already performed in Formula 1 tests as part of the Force India team (since 2019 - Racing Point). Russian spent behind the wheel of the Indian team's car eight test days. He last participated in the testing of the F-1 car in August last year at a circuit in Hungary.

Earlier it was reported that in 2019 Mazepin will hold 12 private test sessions as part of Mercedes. As part of the program, the Russian racer should fly a 2017 car.
On tests in Barcelona, Mazepin will sit behind the wheel of a Mercedes car of current specification - on these cars, Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton brought the German team five winning doubles in the five starting races of the 2019 season. At the moment, the British pilot heads the overall standings of the Formula 1 championship, and Mercedes leads the Constructors' Championship.

This season Mazepin performs in Formula 2 as part of the ART team. After three stages, the driver takes the 16th place in the individual competition, scoring four points. In the first six races of the season, the Russian pilot finished only once in the top ten, taking eighth place at the stage in Baku. The Russian pilot was closely associated with Force India and was its development pilot until control of the racing team passed to Lawrence Stroll. Another contender for the purchase of Force India was Nikita's father, Dmitry Mazepin.
